Meeting on next Friday at 7pm just above the Franciscan Well. All are welcome to attend, Moninne Griffith from MarriagEquality will be coming down from Dublin to speak and hopefully we'll have some TD representation too! (That's my job, I hope Fine Gael and Labour get back to me, I can't mess this up!!) Basically, it'll be a forum for discussing what rights civil partnership will give gays.......... and what rights it completely ignores. Minister Micheal McGrath replied to one of my recent letters to him and said the following:
"I am sure you will accept that the bill represents a very significant step forward for lesbian and gay couples. Minister Dermot Ahern has advised that the Government based the bill on the advice of the Attorney General on the constitutional issues involved."
EQUALITY DOESN'T COME IN HALF MEASURES MINISTER!!!!!
Minister of (in)Justice Dermot Ahern has also said that this will not be a stepping stone to full marriage, this is the best we're going to get. >:-/
On a positive note, I met loads of lovely people out last night and everyone was so friendly and receptive to the idea. YAYY!!!!! Handing out more flyers around town this evening at the official Gay bar launch of Chambers and probably in Rubys and Instinct so do say hi if you see me!! :-)
