Bangkok Riots

I depart for Thailand on Tuesday and the riots have become significantly more violent in Bangkok. I'm getting a bit nervous now (watch the video on the link below to see why) but I should be ok as I'm flying into Bangkok and leaving for Phuket on another flight 3.5 hours later. *fingers crossed*

There are fresh scenes of death and violence on the streets of Bangkok.

Three people are reported to have been shot dead by soldiers on Saturday morning, bringing the death toll in the last 24 hours to at least 19.

Troops are struggling to isolate a sprawling encampment of demonstrators calling for the resignation of the government.

The latest fighting between the so-called red-shirt protesters and soldiers have now entered a third day, with many troops replacing rubber bullets with live rounds.

Some 50 demonstrators have been killed since the red-shirts began their protest two months ago, and it is estimated about 1400 have been wounded.

The latest clashes broke out on Thursday when a renegade general allied with the protesters was shot.

Hardcore demonstrators have been launching fireworks and throwing petrol bombs at the soldiers, in violence that has spread across the city.
