Flood and Ball Update

It rained again last night! Fortunately it wasn't too heavy but there's just so much pressure on resources as it is. College has officially closed for the week as the damage is quite bad, apparently the computer science block has been ruined and the cancer research center equipment is in bits. All of it new. :-(

The scary thing about this is that I live only 2 mins walk from all these areas and escaped COMPLETELY! My lovely friend LJ from SOS has moved in with me as her student accomm has been closed down and plenty more students from abroad are homeless so the Students' Union is calling for anyone to offer a spare room if they can.

On the good side, there have been no reported fatalities and everyone is banding together to help out. The Ball went ahead last night as well and was AMAAAAZING! Extremely hungover so that's always a good sign ;-) Didn't even have to wear wellies with my tux so I'm delira!!

Saying that, my tux jacket was taken so I'm hoping it gets returned...sent this email around to the class this morning..(Note I'm 6'6 and my jacket will fit very few people..RIDICULOUS!)

Jacket feeling a bit on the long side?

Find a surprise bottle of vodka in the inside pocket? (Classy I know)

Perhaps a little card saying "Please return if lost as my Mom will kill me"?

Floods!!

Cork has officially been submerged under water!

College was cancelled but fortunately I just got an email there saying the ball this evening has not been cancelled. I'll probably be bringing along some wellies so I can walk around town later on so pictures to follow of course! The river Lee burst its banks some time last night and loads of my friends have been badly affected by it. Literally all of the student accommodation at Victoria's Cross is submerged under a good few feet of water and electricity has been cut. My friend T is stranded in her apartment as the water rises up to 4meters at the bottom of her hill!

Tragically 4 girls passed away in a severe road traffic accident in Galway due to the bad weather conditions. Furthermore, all of the flooding can't be helping the search for missing Cork student Brian O Tuama. Hopefully some resolution will follow soon for everyone involved.
